Are You Really Overweight?
Before rushing to a mental health counselor seeking sage counseling on your latest fad of body weight, you can tell for yourself if you are seriously or mildly overweight.
If you are seriously overweight, your waist circumference prevents you from looking down and seeing your feet. When you get on the scale, you tip 300 pounds and can't really even see the numbers and that is why you wait until you visit your doctor to find out how much you weigh. And, speaking of doctors, you haven't had a physical check up in a few years because you know you are obese and your over weight is causing secondary symptoms like constricting your air passages at night, making sleeping a real problem.
If you are mildly overweight, your buttons pop and your zipper won't zip. You have added about 20 extra pounds from when you bought your clothes and should consider a diet regimen or new clothes.
If you look in the mirror and see pockets of flesh where there should be a straight line and, if , you are not working at a job that requires you to have a perfect body, you might be having other psychosomatic issues that you should consider discussing with a therapist.
A mental health therapist can help you to discover what life stressors are affecting your life situation and once you address those issues, the dire need to focus on some external problem will be abated.
Are you really overweight and don't know it? Then, you have other issues that you need to know about. Are you obsessed with your weight and is that obsession helping you to cope with your life situation? Then, you might have a food related addiction and should think carefully about it.
You can tell for yourself if you are overweight by standing in front of a mirror. Sketch yourself and write down something about how you think you look to yourself and to others. You know yourself if you are anorexic or bulemic and both disorders have to do with childhood abuse issues. Are you really overweight, so , what's the problem?
