A high protein diet plan is commonly employed by many types of people, including those seeking to eliminate carbohydrates from their weight loss diet plan, those with blood sugar problems (such as diabetes) which necessitate consuming fewer carbohydrates, and those who are working to build muscle.
For decades, body builders have packed on the muscle through heavy lifting work-outs and a high intake of low fat protein. In the new millennium, more people have jumped on the high-protein diet plan bandwagon due to a concern over too much carbohydrates and simple sugars.
Protein is an excellent food source that the body can use to build muscle or which it can turn into energy. Protein is great for body builders because it is directly needed to create muscle; lean protein is relatively easy to find and allows one to pack on muscles without adding a lot of fat, in conjunction with heavy weight lifting. High protein diets are also popular among those using a diet plan to lose weight. One reason is that protein is lower in calories than other food types, such as fat, and that it is slow to digest, allowing one to feel full for longer.
Because protein is more satisfying and makes a person feel full longer, they end up eating fewer calories overall, thus losing weight. It is also possible that protein actually contains hunger suppressing enzymes, though this is still being studied. It is important to note, however, that a high protein diet can be a problem for people with kidney disease, and thus one should always check with their doctor before embarking on any new diet plan.
